Over 10,000 athletes from about 200 countries have been competing in 38 different disciplines in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, between August 9 to 24.

The Puerto Rican athletes include boxer Jose Pedraza. weightlifter Geralee Vega, Judo athlete Abderraman Brenes la Roche, swimmer Cristina Lennox, and many more.

Argentina has won one bronze medal by Paula Belen Pareto in the Judo 48kg discipline. Other Argentinian Olympians are San Antonio Spurs' guard Manu Ginibili and Chicago Bull's forward Andres Nocioni, both playing in the men's basketball team.

Mexico has also won a bronze medal by Paola Espinosa and Tatiana Ortiz in women's synchronized diving. Other Olympians include Chicago wrestler Larry Langowski and archer Juan Rene Serrano.

Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler, Mijain Lopez won the gold for his country in 120kg.

As of August 18, 2008, Cuba leads the pack with one gold, five silver medals, and five bronze medals. Brazil is second with one gold and five bronze medals. Colombia has one silver and one bronze. Panama is next with one gold. Chile and Ecuador have one silver medal. Mexico and Argentina have one bronze medal.
